Some preach the importance of maintenance. I believe engagement of maintenance is directly correlated to longevity, whether it be tools, equipment, our bodies, our brains, our relationships. We can likely benefit from positive engagement with all aspects of our lives.
While this might be my belief, I often feel like the “to-do list” is never ending, with maintenance being at the top and the bottom of the list. Completion of maintenance leads to planning and scheduling the next maintenance.
Finally, I addressed the maintenance of bluebear’s primary equipment, the computer. This computer has been in dire need of a refresh, and it took a blue screen of terror and inability to load software to encourage me to finally tend to the PC components.

So here it is, in all it’s glory. Dusted, then removed the old thermal paste.
Finally, once cleaned, a new bead of thermal paste applied and a clean bios update installed. Quite a scary feeling waiting for the BIOS to install and the PC to turn on, hoping the maintenance resolved the no start, endless BIOS loop. Alas, the PC turns on. Now to run through a heat cycle to get that paste settled properly.
Start the heat cycle with a video game benchmark. Yikes, that wasn’t smart. That benchmark simply heat cycled the GPU. We moved on to cinebench where the CPU was definitely loaded, scoring in 4th place, whatever that means.
Since the maintenance, the PC has been running slightly cooler. This ought to be a routine maintenance. How often should the thermal paste be changed?
